My daddy never taught me much. Indeed when I reached the age that my parents should have gotten smarter, my daddy just stayed the same.
Daddy did take me fishin' though. We or I should say daddy never got skunked. We may not have brought home a 'stringerfull,' but, we always caught a mess of fish. That was a good thing. You ever tried to tote a 'stringerfull' of sunbreast, warmouth and bluegill out of the swamp?
As time went by I lost my interest. Until this year.
Maybe it was the joy of getting back home after my ten month sentence in NC. I have always carried my gear with me. This year I have actually been using it.
I was fishing the Amicolola River in North Central Georgia and there was no one catching anything except this one guy. So I asked him the timeless question, "whatcha usin'?" 'Trout Magnet' came the reply.
Trout Magnet is a cheapy fishing lure. You can buy enough of them to last years and years for under $15.00. I had one pack in my tackle box. But, I also had almost a full box of worms so the Trout Magnet stayed in there.
This past weekend needing to get out of the house and away from that wasp's nest, I went to my local Wally World, stocked up, and headed up to Settle's Bridge.
As they say back home 'sumbitch was right' Here I was with less than $30 worth of gear and I was catching them left and right. All around me were fly fisherman any one of which spent at least $300 on his fishing gear getting zip.
