This was the first trip Wes and I took.  We started out making reservations at Unicoi State Park near Helen.  The girl who took the reservations told us there would be a 'short' hike to the site.  Short turned out to be 3/4 mile.

We didn't pack lite for this trip (hell I never do) and there was no way I was going to make four or five trips up and down that frickin hill.

So off we go back to the office.  Surprisingly considering it was a State office they cheerfully refunded my $12.

Now my son is kinda looking at me funny.  He seems to be thinking "has my dad gone nuts?" "No campsite and it's getting dark?"  As usual he had no cause to worry.  Old 'pops' knows other places to camp.

Twenty minutes later we are pulling into a primitive site right on the 'Hooch (Chattahoochee River).    It was like they were expecting us.  As soon as we started putting up our tent, the guy in the next site brings us a lantern so we can actually see to put the tent up.  Plus, enough cut wood for a week.

Set up sit back and relax.  That's what camping is all about.  Wes had the pleasure of sleeping in the great outdoors for the first time in his young life.  'Pops' had the pleasure of seeing his son enjoying hisself immensely.  That is what being a Dad is all about.

Not bad considering this was the second time we put this tent up and the first time in the dark

Naturally we brought along some nourishment.  Here Wes consumes a beverage named for the South American plant used to make cocaine.
